Sustainable East Africa Research in Community Health
SEARCH is about using treatment to stop the spread of HIV and building community health. It is a cluster randomized community trial taking place in 32 communities in three regions: Mbarara/Western Uganda (10 communities) Tororo/Eastern Uganda (10 communities), and Suba and Rongo, Kenya (12 communities). Annual community health campaigns will be conducted in all study communities and will offer HIV testing and multi-disease prevention and treatment services. The intervention is ART independent of CD4 cell count delivered in a streamline approach for all HIV infected adults and children. Components of streamlined care include ongoing HIV combination prevention strategies including male circumcision. Control communities will receive annual testing campaigns and ART will follow CD4-driven country guidelines. The information gained will guide global efforts to end AIDS.
