New study highlights ways to further reduce mother-to-child-transmission of HIV

New KEMRI-FACES study identifies ways in which we can further reduce cases of mother-to-child-transmission (MTCT) of HIV. In particular, the findings highlight the importance of increasing pregnant women’s adherence to antiretroviral drugs, skilled HIV education & counseling, and testing to make women and their partners aware of their HIV statuses. Although we have made great progress toward reducing the MTCT rate, more must be done to ensure the health of all mothers and infants, regardless of HIV status.
