Current enrollment trends for FACES clinics and collaborating clinics

There are currently 62 health facilities supported by FACES: 2 in Nairobi and 60 in Nyanza Province (9 in Kisumu, 20 in Suba, 22 in Migori, and 9 in Rongo).  The number of patients currently enrolled in HIV care is 58,305 including 9,232 children. Among those enrolled in HIV care, 22,950 are currently on antiretroviral treatment (ART), including 2,977 children (by 31 January 2010).

In addition, 62 sites in Migori, Rongo, and Kisumu East districts are providing Prevention of Parent-to-Child Transmission (PPCT) services. In this reporting year, since October 2009, HIV counseling, testing, and results reached 10,146 women, 15% of whom were HIV-positive. Over 95% of HIV+ women and their exposed infants have received ARV prophylaxis within antenatal and maternity services to help prevent HIV transmission to their infant.

FACES supports Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) services to help prevent HIV infection. Adult Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) services launched with 1 site in Migori in October 2008 and second site in Rongo by March 2009. VMMC services are now provided at 12 sites in Migori and Rongo. Infant VMMC started in Migori in June 2009. By 31 January 2010, 7,398 male circumcisions have been performed including 30 infant male circumcisions.  .

Steinberg Comprehensive Care Centre at Suba District Hospital
Steinberg Comprehensive Care Centre at Suba District Hospital

August 2008 – Suba

In August 2008, the new Steinberg Comprehensive Care Centre at Suba District Hospital opened its doors to patients. The opening of this clinic is an encouraging step forward as FACES continues to combat HIV in Suba District. This new centre was funded by a generous donation from Sue and Michael Steinberg.

The Steinbergs FACES was honored to have the Steinbergs present for the building dedication in October 2007, when the exterior of the building was near completion. After introductions, the dedication began with a tree planting ceremony, plaque unveiling, and a tour of the new centre. This was followed by an informative and moving program including skits and songs by FACES childrens’ clubs, personal success stories from FACES clients, and speeches from FACES staff and other associated health personnel.
